Precaution is the Key
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, the old saying goes. Taking the extra pains of caution is always better than being laid up for six weeks with a broken leg. Many accidents are avoidable, so do your best to stay safe.
Be sure to check the safety features of your tools, to make sure they are in working order. If they are damaged or malfunctioning, get them replaced or report them to your supervisor. Make sure ladders have slip-resistant rungs and feet, and avoid setting them up in unstable terrain. Watch out for power lines, either overhead or buried underground. Make sure scaffolds have the proper railings. Keep shelves and cabinets from being overloaded. Of course, avoid horseplay in a construction zoneāif you injure yourself through careless play, you will be faulted for the accident and for anyone else who may be injured.
Avoid coming to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These are a major factor in loss of awareness and judgment. It is almost certain that if an accident happens to you while you are inebriated or under the influence of drugs, you will bear all of the blame, and a lawsuit will not be successful.
